Brian Laybutt

“St Ambrose will be a school that is based around contemporary learning goals; classrooms that are flexible and dynamic and teachers who embrace modern learning methods. My role as the Principal will be to work closely with staff and parents to bring out the best in each child.”

With 30 years of experience in education, Mr Brian Laybutt has worked in all three systems of education (State, Independent and Catholic). He has been an Assistant Principal of two schools, a Head of Primary, Principal of three systemic Catholic Primary schools and has been employed as an Educational Consultant within the Diocese of Lismore.

Since 2006 Brian has been the Principal of Mt St Patrick Primary School, Murwillumbah. During that time the school has been involved in a number of building programs, which has seen significant growth in the school.

Brian enjoys travel and the beach. His interests include golf, fishing  and football (in fact, all sports in general).  Brian and his family have lived in Cabarita for the last 10 years and his three children are actively engaged in various local sports (hockey, rugby, nippers, tennis, swimming, cricket). Brian is associated with various local clubs which gives him insight and understanding of the needs of the community.

Brian Laybutt was appointed to  the position in  September 2013. In January 2014 he took up full time principal duties for St Ambrose Primary School working  on site. This role included the employment of all staff, resourcing the school, coordinating uniforms, developing a school crest, establishing and devising school protocols and procedures. 

 On 27th January 2015 Brian was on hand to welcome all students and families into the school.
