Principal Message

Dear St Ambrose Families,
What a vibrant and energetic few weeks it's been at St Ambrose! Our commitment to providing the best learning environment for our students is truly reflected in the multitude of activities happening within our school.
This week, we celebrated Science Week with a fantastic Showcase Day. It was incredibly interesting and exciting to see students bring in their experiments and share them with everyone. Their enthusiasm was contagious!
Unfortunately, our Year 4 excursion to St Helena Island had to be cancelled for the third time due to the weather. We share your disappointment, but rest assured, we have other exciting excursions planned for our students. On a brighter note, our Year 6 students had a wonderful time in Murwillumbah, gaining first-hand insight into the Council Chambers and how local government operates. This experience is a key part of their Government unit, which will culminate in their highly anticipated trip to Canberra, including a visit to Parliament House.
Last week, our Kindergarten students joyfully celebrated 100 days of school! Seeing them all dressed up as 100-year-olds was absolutely beautiful. A big thank you to our dedicated teachers and parents for entering into this celebration with such enthusiasm. Also last week, our students represented St Ambrose wonderfully at the Tweed Catholic Schools Public Speaking Competition, speaking beautifully and making us proud.
Today, we observe the Feast of the Assumption, a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic calendar. Students from Years 3-6 attended Mass, and Years K-2 participated in a prayer liturgy. Our Year 3 students are also busily preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, with their retreat day scheduled for next Tuesday.
On Monday, we are excited to welcome six Student Teachers to St Ambrose. This is part of our new "Teaching Training Program," a fantastic partnership with Southern Cross University and the Catholic Schools Office, Lismore.
Finally, you would have recently received a survey regarding the appointment of a new Principal for St Ambrose. I strongly encourage you to complete this survey and share your valuable thoughts and points of view. Your comments will be collated and provided to the interviewing panel as part of their shortlisting process. Applications for the position close at 9am on Monday, 25 August 2025.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making St Ambrose such a special place.
Warm regards,
Brian Laybutt
Principal

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Holy Day of Obligation
Today, 15 August, we celebrated a very special event in our
Catholic Church Calendar the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Years 3- 6 students attended Mass at 9:15am celebrated by Michael Nilon.
The Kinder, Year 1 & 2 students joined in a lovely Prayers service in the Church at 10:15.
Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Mary – Friday. 22nd August

On August 22, the Church celebrates the Feast of Queenship of Mary, Honoring Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. This special day reminds us of Mary’s unique role as the mother of Jesus and her loving care and intercession for all of us. It’s a beautiful opportunity to reflect one her example of faith, humility, and grace.
Introducing the St Anthony's Parish Trades and Services Directory

The parish is putting together the St Anthony's Parish Trades & Services Directory—a free resource to help connect parish and school families with local professionals and businesses from within our own community. While the parish is not able to formally endorse the quality of the work of services listed, we trust that those who are part of our parish and school communities who are listed in the Directory will uphold shared Catholic Values and conduct their work with integrity and respect.
Whether you're a tradesperson, run a small business, or offer professional services, this is a great opportunity to let others in the parish and school communities know what you do. It also serves as a helpful resource for those looking to connect with local services they can trust.
Forms will be available at the back of both churches or use this QR code to access the Pastoral Council page on the parish website with a link to a google form. Simply fill in your name, business or service, contact information, and a short description of what you offer. We hope this directory becomes a valuable go-to for our community and helps strengthen the sense of connection and support we share.

Be bold. Be kind. Speak up

This week St Ambrose participated in Bullying No Way Week. The theme for 2025 is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.'
Students had opportunities to participate in lessons and webinars about the importance of being an upstander and treating others respectfully through daily interactions and when they are online. These topics have also been regularly covered in our Peer Support sessions this year.
Students learnt about the importance of being bold, kind and taking a stand to support others. Parents and teachers are there to support children and young people learn how to behave in a positive way.
In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted.
Further information for families can be accessed from the Bullying No Way website: https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/support-and-advice/for-families
